The climate is a continental variant of the Mediterranean with particularly beautiful spring, summer and autumn, and snowy, often long winters. The average annual air temperature is 7.6 degrees Celsius. In summer, temperatures rarely exceed 30°, and there are almost no warm nights. Fužine has excellent transport connections. The area borders the Kvarner Bay, so the coast - Rijeka and the Crikvenica-Vinodol Riviera - is only 30 kilometers away, and the island of Krk is only 22 kilometers away. Fužine is located in the immediate vicinity of the Zagreb - Rijeka highway and is very easy to reach, and it is possible to visit it by taking a somewhat romantic train ride. This is why it is possible to spend the night in Fužine comfortably on hot summer days, and at the same time stay at the sea. Fužine is characterized by its abundance of water. Today, there are three reservoir lakes there: Bajer, Lepenica and Potkoš, which have perfectly blended into the Gorski Kotar landscape. They are rich in fish and are a real bait for fishermen. The clear waters abound with trout, chub, huchen, carp, pike, grass carp... Sailing regattas and diving competitions are held on the lakes, and surfing, boating and canoeing are possible. The deep forests of Gorski Kotar are perfect for hunters because they are abundant with high-altitude game, but also with other game. A particularly important tourist attraction is the Vrelo cave. The cave was discovered in the 1950s during the construction of Lake Bajer. It is well-lit and arranged for visits with a professional guide. It is 300 meters long in total and is specific in that it is the only tourist-designed cave in Croatia through which groundwater flows. It is also configured in such a way, without stairs, that even people in wheelchairs can visit it. Due to its accessibility and attractiveness, it is visited by all generations, from children from kindergartens to the elderly. As a popular tourist destination, Fužine offers tourists numerous sports and recreational facilities. In the area you will find nine marked hiking and cycling trails, as well as marked hiking trails, and the most popular is the promenade around Lake Bajer with an accompanying jogging trail. The beautiful Gorica Park with three tennis courts offers the opportunity to actively engage in sports and recreation. The "Gmajna" sports and recreation center is located in the village of Vratima. All activities that ensure a smooth life for the population and a pleasant stay for guests are developed in the village. There is a health center, pharmacy, bank, post office, railway station, gas station, utility company, municipal administration and tourist office. The Fužine-Lika region is rich in cultural and sacral buildings. The oldest is the church of St. George in Lič from 1662, and the church of St. Anthony of Padua in Fužine was built over a full 25 years from 1808 to 1833 and is the largest such building in Gorski Kotar. The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Snows in the Lika Field is particularly interesting and attractive. According to legend, in 1733, Our Lady appeared at this place in the snow. For centuries, pilgrimages have been made to the sanctuary in search of prayer and healing, and a traditional pilgrimage is held every August 5th. Instead of the large church that was destroyed in World War II, the Sanctuary is now adorned with a small church built in 2002. In the oldest settlement, Lič (marked on Venetian maps as early as the 12th century), there is a very attractive and in many ways special Ethnographic Collection where interesting ethnographic objects and archival materials that tell about the history of this region have been collected. The early beginnings of education are very significant in the development of the Fužine-Lika region. Fužine received a school as early as 1785. It is one of the oldest schools in this part of Croatia, and it has influenced the high level of literacy and culture of the population throughout history. In the settlements of the Fužine municipality, the Štokavian, Čakavian and Kajkavian dialects are spoken, which has been preserved to this day, so the speech of all three dialects: Ča-Kaj-Što is an interesting characteristic of this region. Cultural associations have a long tradition, and one of the most prominent places in history is still occupied by the Fužine Brass Orchestra, founded in 1848. The orchestra is the trademark of Fužine, performs successfully at home and abroad and has more than 50 active members. Fužine is very famous for its gastronomic offer. Excellent restaurants offer a rich selection of indigenous local dishes or dishes made from mushrooms, game and forest fruits prepared according to original recipes.
