It was designed by the Renaissance architect Juraj Dalmatinac and is one of the few well-preserved medieval towns. Notable cultural landmarks include the Parish Church of St. Mary on the main square, the Skrivant Tower, city walls, and the Prince’s Palace. The Benedictine Sisters’ Monastery, besides its numerous valuable church relics and paintings, preserves the tradition of making 'baškotin', a flavorful double-baked bread that can be obtained at the entrance to the monastery. In addition to salt production, the local population engages in sheep farming (famous Pag cheese and lamb), viticulture (Pag’s Žutica wine), agriculture, and fishing.
